Thermostatic valves, rain heads, hand showers, body sprays, digital controls and multi-outlet diverters — specified against the water your house can actually deliver, and roughed in so the trim you choose today is not the last one that will ever fit.

Excellent service from Ben at Seastack Mechanical. Ben demonstrated exceptional professionalism, honesty, and work ethic throughout the entire job. His response time was very quick, and he was a pleasure to work with. Although I had mistakenly omitted some of my requirements in the original work order, Ben did not hesitate to return to my home a second time to ensure everything was completed exactly as I wanted. What impressed me most was that he never asked for any additional payment, even though the extra visit was clearly beyond the original scope of work. His positive attitude, integrity, and commitment to customer satisfaction truly stood out. He made sure every aspect of the job was completed to a high professional standard. I am extremely satisfied with his service and would not hesitate to call him again for any future plumbing needs. Highly recommended!

The Valve Body Is The Decision That Lasts Twenty Years

Every shower trim sits on a valve body buried in the wall, and the trim only fits its own valve. Changing a trim later is an hour’s work. Changing the valve body behind finished tile is a demolition job.

Get the valve right at rough-in — the correct type, the correct number of outlets, and the correct depth for your finished wall thickness — and the bathroom can be restyled twice over the next twenty years without anyone opening a wall. This is where we see the most expensive mistakes on renovations that were not plumbed to the drawings.

  • Valve type chosen for the household, not for the price list
  • Outlet count fixed before ordering — you cannot add one later
  • Depth set against the real wall build-up including membrane and tile
  • Volume controls and diverters placed where a wet hand can reach them
  • Cartridge access confirmed through the trim, not through the tile

What Goes Into A Custom Shower

01

Thermostatic Valves

Holds the temperature you set regardless of what else runs in the house. Two people can shower while the dishwasher fills and nobody shouts. See Grohtherm valves.

02

Pressure-Balance Valves

The right answer in a single-outlet shower on a modest budget. It protects against scalding; the temperature just moves while it does.

03

Rain Heads & Ceiling Outlets

Ceiling-mounted heads need the drop, the blocking and the supply run set before the ceiling closes. See Rainshower systems.

04

Body Sprays & Hand Showers

Each outlet is flow you have to supply. Four sprays and a rain head running together is a different plumbing problem from a single head, and it is solved on the drawing.

05

Digital & Push-Button Controls

Preset temperatures, push-button on, turn for volume. Easier for arthritic hands than gripping and twisting a lever, and it needs power and a serviceable control box.

06

Linear & Point Drains

Drain type and position set to the tile falls and the slab, co-ordinated with the tiler rather than handed to them.

Can Your House Actually Run It?

This is the question most shower packages are sold without. A rain head plus three body sprays can ask for more flow than the service into the house will give at the pressure the valve needs. The result is a shower that works beautifully on its own and dies the moment a tap opens elsewhere.

We check the incoming service size, the static and running pressure, and the water heater’s recovery before anything is ordered. Sometimes the answer is a pressure-reducing valve, a bigger supply, or a recirculation loop. Sometimes it is fewer outlets, honestly recommended.

Questions We Are Asked

Can my house supply a shower with a rain head, hand shower and body sprays?

It depends on the water service size, the branch to the bathroom, the valve and the hot water. Several outlets running together can need 8 to 10 gallons a minute. We measure pressure and flow before rough-in and size the branch and valve to suit, or tell you honestly what the house can and cannot do.

What is a linear drain and does it change the rough-in?

A long narrow drain along one edge of the shower, used for large-format tile and curbless entries. It needs a single-direction slope and a drain body set before the pan is formed, so it must be chosen before rough-in.

Can I have a curbless shower?

Usually, if the floor can be recessed or the slope built into the structure. It is a framing and plumbing decision made before the subfloor is finished.

How many outlets can one shower valve run?

It depends on the valve. A standard thermostatic valve with a diverter runs two or three outlets one or two at a time. High-flow valves and separate volume controls allow more outlets at once, if the house can supply them.

Specifying A Shower?

Send the elevation and the fixture list. We will confirm the valve, the outlet count and the flow before anything is ordered.
