We partnered with a homeowner in Willoughby, Langley, to convert an unfinished basement into a fully legal, two-bedroom rental suite. This project required a complete “ground-up” plumbing installation, including cutting into the existing concrete slab to install new drainage and venting systems that meet strict municipal and provincial standards.
The Solution:
Converting a basement into a suite is a technical challenge that requires precision. We managed the entire mechanical scope of the project:
Sub-Slab Drainage: We expertly mapped out and installed the new waste lines for a full bathroom (toilet, tub, and vanity) and a kitchen sink, ensuring the correct “fall” (slope) for gravity drainage.
Dedicated Venting: We installed a code-compliant venting system to ensure sewer gases are safely exhausted through the roof and that all traps function perfectly to prevent odors.
Independent Shut-offs: We installed a dedicated water manifold for the suite, allowing the homeowner to shut off water to the rental unit without affecting the main house.
Laundry & Appliance Hookups: Integrated plumbing for a stackable laundry pair and a dishwasher, maximizing the utility of the suite’s smaller footprint.
