The Project Overview:
During a modern kitchen remodel in Walnut Grove, the homeowner decided to move the main sink from the perimeter wall to a new, large central island. This required a complex re-routing of both the water supply lines and the drainage system through the sub-floor, as well as a specialized venting solution to ensure proper drainage without a traditional vent stack.
The Solution:
Island venting is one of the most common places where amateur plumbers make mistakes. We ensured this installation was “over-built” for performance and longevity:
Engineered Drainage: We precision-cut the sub-floor to install a 2-inch drain line with the exact pitch required to ensure fast, clog-free drainage.
Specialized Venting: Since there was no wall to run a vent pipe up to the roof, we installed a high-quality Air Admittance Valve (AAV) under the sink. This allows the drain to “breathe” while keeping sewer gases trapped, all while being hidden inside the cabinetry.
PEX Supply Lines: We ran new hot and cold PEX lines with dedicated shut-off valves, ensuring high water pressure for the new pull-down spray faucet.
Appliance Integration: We also roughed-in the plumbing for a built-in dishwasher and a high-end garburator, ensuring all discharge lines were properly looped to prevent backflow.
