What it is
GROHE Sense Guard fits on the main water line where it enters the house. It monitors pressure and flow continuously, learns the difference between a tap running and a pipe failing, and closes the water supply automatically when it sees a burst. GROHE Sense is the companion floor sensor, a small puck you set where water should never be.
What it does for your home
A supply line that lets go while you are at work is one of the most expensive things that can happen to a house. Sense Guard turns that into a notification on your phone and a dry floor. It also catches the slow drip inside a wall that would otherwise go unnoticed for months and show up as a stain on the ceiling below.

What it needs to be installed properly
The unit we install is the Sense Guard smart water controller (22503LN0), which connects into the main line with brass fittings and runs from a plug-in adapter. GROHE quote approximately 90 minutes for professional installation, which matches our experience where the shut-off is accessible. You need a power outlet at the main shut-off and a Wi-Fi signal that actually reaches there — which, in a concrete basement or a crawlspace, is worth testing before installation day rather than after. The unit goes in downstream of the main shut-off on the incoming line.
Who it suits — and who it does not
If you travel, own a rental, have a finished basement, or have a hot water tank sitting above living space, this is the single most useful plumbing product GROHE makes. If you live in a small apartment with the tank in a concrete room and a drain in the floor, the case is weaker.
