High-Efficiency Hot Water System Upgrade
The Project Overview:
We were called to a residence in Surrey where the homeowner was dealing with a 15-year-old leaking hot water tank. The old unit was inefficient and struggling to keep up with the family’s morning demand. Our goal was to provide a modern, high-recovery solution that would lower their monthly gas bill and increase their hot water capacity.
The Solution:
After assessing the home’s venting and water needs, we recommended and installed a High-Efficiency Power-Vented Gas Water Heater. This system is a major step up from standard tanks.
Key features of this installation:
Advanced Power Venting: We installed a dedicated PVC vent through the exterior wall, allowing the tank to exhaust gases more safely and efficiently than old chimney-style vents.
Thermal Expansion Tank: We added a thermal expansion tank above the unit to absorb pressure spikes, protecting the tank’s internal lining and the home’s plumbing fixtures.
Safety Upgrades: Installed a new brass full-port shut-off valve and a high-quality temperature and pressure (T&P) relief valve with a dedicated discharge line.
Gas Line Modernization: Replaced the old flex line with a new, code-compliant connection and sediment trap.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Result:
The homeowner now enjoys faster recovery times (more hot water, faster) and a significantly safer, more efficient system. By upgrading to a high-efficiency model, the family is also set to save on their annual energy costs.
Quick Project Stats:
Service: Water Heater Replacement
Tank Type: High-Efficiency Power Vent (Gas)
Key Benefit: Improved recovery rate and increased energy efficiency.
